Finding vegan eats when traveling is one of my favorite things to do. Over the years, it has gotten easier to find plant based options while on the go and I’ve been really impressed with the vegetarian and vegan cafes and bars I’ve found along the way. Glasgow, Toronto and Playa del Carmen, Mexico have shown me over the last year that vegan food is on the rise. My most recent trip to England landed me in Leeds where I got to visit two amazing eateries, plus a cheeky vegan fried cauliflower app at a local pub.
When the menu label V goes to Ve for vegan! (Insert happy dance!) How perfect is this pub that was walking distance to our flat and….Ale Battered Cauliflower!
Next up, the most anticipated Cantina at the Old Red Bus Station
Talk about welcoming and home away from home, the Cantina is the best place to roll into whether your a regular or traveling, vegan, stalker, like me. Ever since I googled this, I knew I needed to eat here. The staff couldn’t be nicer as we ordered snacks downstairs until the restaurant opened at 5 upstairs. We enjoyed vegetable tempura bites, fried tofu and sweet potato fries as I dreamed of what was to come next. We even had some chocolate/brownie type deliciousness, dessert first? Yes, please!
When I thought it couldn’t get any better, the amazing eats upstairs continued this nomfest.
Run, don’t walk to the Cantina, it is truly unbelievable.
The vegan food tour continued in Leeds, next up, Roots and Fruits. This cute cafe/restaurant is literally up the street from The Cantina. We went for lunch the following day and it was another win. Tucked up within the Grand Arcade, Roots and Fruits is the perfect spot. The bright colors and great signage draws you in and the options are limitless! How about this special board to start with?!
Of course, I couldn’t decide and had to get two things, the soup and The Whole Bowl, my husband had the all day breakfast and it was the perfect balance of flavors.
If I could only beam myself back to Leeds…. In the meantime, I will try to let as many people I know about the amazing vegan eats in Leeds and please comment below with any of your favorite finds and eats along your travels.
Until next time….
